Youth Sport Performance & Team Conditioning

Build Faster, Stronger, More Durable Young Athletes

Olympia Performance runs sport-specific youth performance training and team conditioning out of our 16869 Hymus facility in West Island Montreal. Our coaches program speed, strength, and durability work that fits the season your athlete is in — pre-season build, in-season maintenance, or off-season development — so they show up ready to compete.

What does youth performance training at Olympia look like?

A short answer first: we train young athletes the way college and pro programs do — with structured warm-ups, sport-specific speed and strength work, and progressions matched to age and training age. Sessions are coached, not just supervised, so technique gets fixed in real time.

Individual Athlete Development

One-on-one or semi-private programming for the youth athlete who wants more than what a school or club season provides. We assess movement, build a sport-specific plan, then run the sessions ourselves.

Team Conditioning Blocks

Bring the whole team. We run scheduled team conditioning blocks for hockey, soccer, football, basketball, rugby, lacrosse, baseball, and volleyball squads in our open training space.

Pre-Season Build

4 to 8 week blocks before tryouts and camp. Hypertrophy, strength, sprint mechanics, and conditioning sequenced so athletes peak when the season starts — not when it ends.

In-Season Maintenance

Two short, smart sessions per week that keep strength and speed without burying the athlete. We coordinate with games and practice load so nobody shows up flat on Saturday.

Off-Season Development

Where real ground gets made. Long-cycle blocks for raw strength, top-end speed, and aerobic base. The window most parents and athletes leave on the table.

Return-to-Sport

Bridge programming after physio clears the athlete but before they trust the body. Reload tissue, restore power output, retest movement before they go back into contact.

Why train youth athletes at Olympia Performance?

Because the room is built for it. Our West Island facility is a specialized multi-purpose training centre with the floor space and equipment to host a youth team and individual athletes at the same time without anyone fighting for a rack or a sled lane.

  • Open training floor that fits an entire team without zig-zagging between equipment
  • Coaches with 25+ years training clients from youth all the way to ninety years old
  • Programs scaled to training age — first-time lifter and competitive U18 are not running the same plan
  • 24/7 facility access via electronic key fob for parent members training alongside
  • Direct line into HYROX, high performance, and reformer pilates programs as the athlete grows

How does a youth athlete or team get started?

Short answer: tour the facility, sit down with a coach for a needs analysis, then run a 4 to 8 week block. We do not push lifetime contracts on a 14-year-old. Athletes and teams commit by block so the program stays honest.

  1. Step 1 — Free Tour. Walk the floor at 16869 Hymus. Meet the coach. See the equipment. Ask the awkward questions about training young athletes.
  2. Step 2 — Needs Analysis. We talk training history, sport, position, season schedule, and any injury history. For teams, we sit down with the head coach to align on priorities.
  3. Step 3 — Block Programming. 4 to 8 week structured block tied to where the athlete or team sits in the calendar — pre-season, in-season, or off-season.
  4. Step 4 — Retest & Iterate. Numbers move or they don't. We retest at block end, look at the data with the athlete, then build the next block.

"After two years of treatment following a car accident, I had lost hope that I would ever be free of pain. I came to Steve and everything changed."

Youth Sport Training — Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start performance training at Olympia?

We work with athletes from age 8 and up. The youngest groups focus on movement quality, coordination, and athleticism rather than loaded lifting. As training age and physical maturity build, we layer in structured strength and sport-specific speed work. Programs always scale to the individual, not the calendar age on a birth certificate.

Do you train full youth sports teams, or only individual athletes?

Both. Olympia hosts scheduled team conditioning blocks for hockey, soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, rugby, baseball, and volleyball squads, and we also run individual and semi-private sessions for athletes whose team training is not enough. Coaches coordinate directly with head coaches so the team plan and the in-season game schedule do not collide.

Is youth strength training safe?

Yes, when it is coached. Decades of sports-medicine research show supervised resistance training is safer than the sport itself for young athletes and reduces injury risk. The danger is unloaded technique under loaded conditions. At Olympia every youth session is coached, programmed to training age, and progressed conservatively before load is added.

How often should a youth athlete train outside of their sport?

Two structured sessions per week is the sweet spot for in-season athletes — enough to maintain strength and speed without compounding game load. Off-season athletes can scale to three or four sessions when the sport calendar allows. We program around games, practices, and recovery rather than fighting against them.
